US to Invest $5 Billion in AI-Powered Research Across Science and Healthcare
The Trump administration has announced a $5 billion initiative to accelerate scientific research using artificial intelligence, with projects spanning healthcare, drug development, construction, and other critical fields.
The program will involve 15 federal agencies, including the Departments of Health and Human Services, Energy, Defense, Transportation, and Interior.
AI to Speed Up Scientific Discovery
Researchers will use AI alongside the Department of Energy's supercomputers and specialized datasets to study chronic diseases, improve drug discovery, and develop stronger, longer-lasting building materials.
Officials say the initiative aims to solve complex scientific challenges more quickly by combining advanced computing with large government data resources.
Federal Agencies Join Forces
The White House said the project will bring together multiple government agencies under a unified AI research strategy, allowing scientists to access powerful computing infrastructure and shared datasets.
Microsoft will also support the initiative by providing $40 million in AI computing credits over the next three years.
The investment reflects the U.S. government's broader effort to expand the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research while strengthening innovation across key industries.
