Nvidia and SK Group Launch $500 Billion AI Initiative for Data Centers and Next-Gen Memory

Nvidia and South Korea's SK Group have announced a more than $500 billion artificial intelligence initiative focused on expanding AI infrastructure, building large-scale data centers, and developing next-generation memory technology to support the growing demand for advanced AI computing.

The partnership brings together Nvidia, SK Hynix, SK Telecom, Naver, and Brookfield in one of the industry's largest AI infrastructure collaborations.

Nvidia and SK Hynix Deepen AI Memory Partnership

As part of the initiative, Nvidia and SK Hynix have signed a long-term agreement to secure future supplies of advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI accelerators.

The companies also plan to jointly develop HBM4 memory, the next generation of high-speed memory designed to power AI model training, autonomous AI agents, and physical AI applications.

The collaboration aims to strengthen Nvidia's AI hardware ecosystem as demand for advanced computing continues to accelerate worldwide.

South Korea to Build 2-Gigawatt AI Data Center

SK Telecom announced plans to construct a 2-gigawatt AI data center powered by Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin AI platform and SK Hynix's HBM4 memory technology.

According to Nvidia, the first phase of the facility is expected to become operational in 2027, significantly expanding South Korea's AI computing capacity.

The project is expected to support large-scale AI model training, cloud AI services, enterprise computing, and next-generation AI applications.

Naver and Brookfield Join AI Expansion

Separately, Nvidia confirmed that Naver and global investment firm Brookfield will work together to expand Naver's AI data center infrastructure in South Korea.

The expansion is intended to strengthen the country's AI ecosystem and increase computing resources for both domestic and international AI workloads.

AI Infrastructure Race Accelerates

The announcement highlights the growing global competition to build AI infrastructure capable of supporting increasingly powerful foundation models and generative AI applications.

With demand for GPUs, high-bandwidth memory, and hyperscale data centers continuing to rise, partnerships between semiconductor manufacturers, cloud providers, and technology companies are becoming central to the next phase of AI development.
