Lamborghini's Operating Profit Falls as Tariffs and Geopolitical Tensions Hit Luxury Car Market

Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Lamborghini reported a decline in first-half operating profit as higher U.S. tariffs, geopolitical tensions, and a slowdown in key global markets weighed on the luxury automotive sector.

Despite the profit decline, the company achieved record first-half revenue, underscoring continued demand for its high-end vehicles even as global market conditions became more challenging.

Operating Profit Declines Despite Record Revenue

Lamborghini reported first-half operating profit of €395 million, down more than 8% from €431 million during the same period last year.

The company's operating margin declined to 22.7%, compared with 26.5% a year earlier, reflecting rising cost pressures and a more difficult business environment.

However, revenue increased 7.4% to €1.74 billion, marking the highest first-half revenue in Lamborghini's history.

Tariffs and Currency Pressures Impact Performance

Chief Financial Officer Paolo Poma said the company's financial results were affected by higher U.S. tariffs introduced last year, along with unfavorable foreign exchange movements.

The additional costs, combined with geopolitical uncertainty, reduced profitability despite continued growth in revenue.

Luxury automakers have faced increasing challenges as trade barriers and global economic uncertainty reshape international vehicle markets.

Vehicle Deliveries Decline

Lamborghini delivered 5,422 vehicles during the first six months of the year, representing a 4.6% decline compared with the same period in 2025.

Even with fewer deliveries, higher-priced vehicle sales and strong product demand helped the company generate record revenue.

The performance outpaced the broader luxury vehicle market, which Lamborghini said contracted 7.7% during the period.

CEO Highlights Company's Resilience

Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann said Lamborghini demonstrated resilience despite growing volatility across global markets.

The company credited its strong brand positioning and premium product portfolio for helping offset industry-wide challenges affecting luxury automakers.

Management said continued customer demand supported revenue growth even as geopolitical risks and market uncertainty increased.

Volkswagen Also Faces Industry Pressure

Lamborghini's results follow broader challenges within the Volkswagen Group, its parent company.

Earlier this month, Volkswagen withdrew its 2026 sales growth target after reporting a 9.5% decline in second-quarter operating profit, highlighting the wider pressures facing global automotive manufacturers.

Industry challenges include changing trade policies, geopolitical conflicts, and weaker demand in China, one of the world's largest luxury vehicle markets.

Outlook

Lamborghini expects global market conditions to remain uncertain as automakers continue to navigate tariffs, geopolitical developments, and currency fluctuations.

The company will likely focus on maintaining profitability through premium vehicle sales, disciplined pricing, and continued investment in future luxury performance models while adapting to evolving global market conditions.
