Jordan Walker Wins 2026 Home Run Derby, Outlasts Kyle Schwarber in Dramatic Philadelphia Finale

St. Louis Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker capped a breakout season with one of the biggest moments of his career Monday night, defeating hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber 12-11 to win the 2026 MLB Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The 24-year-old Walker closed the championship round with six consecutive home runs, including three bonus swings earned under the Derby's extension rule, to erase a late deficit and silence a partisan Phillies crowd.

"I can't even describe what it means to win it," Walker said after the victory. "I just tried to have fun every round."

Under this year's format, hitters earned additional swings by homering on their final scheduled swing. Walker took full advantage, launching six straight home runs to finish with 12, one more than Schwarber's 11.

His final blast sailed deep into the left-field seats, securing the first Home Run Derby title of his career.

Despite constant boos from the Philadelphia crowd, Walker embraced the atmosphere.

"They love their players," he said. "That's what you want from your hometown fans."

Schwarber Falls Just Short in Front of Home Crowd

Schwarber appeared poised to give Phillies fans a memorable victory after reaching 11 home runs in the championship round.

The Philadelphia slugger also earned an extra swing during the bonus period but couldn't hold off Walker's dramatic finish.

After the event, Schwarber praised his opponent's performance.

"I never thought I had it won," he said. "Jordan was unbelievable on those last swings."

The runner-up finish echoed Schwarber's appearance in the 2018 Home Run Derby, when teammate Bryce Harper rallied late to win the title in front of Washington fans.

Walker Dominated Throughout the Competition

Walker consistently produced one of the strongest performances of the night.

He opened by tying Willson Contreras with 13 home runs in the first round before advancing comfortably past Junior Caminero in the semifinals with several swings remaining.

The championship completed an impressive night for the Cardinals outfielder, who became the first Home Run Derby champion in St. Louis Cardinals history.

Breakout Season Continues

Walker's Derby victory adds another milestone to his first MLB All-Star campaign.

Entering All-Star Week, he had hit 22 home runs while leading Major League Baseball with 74 RBIs, establishing himself as one of the league's emerging stars.

The Home Run Derby title further strengthens what has already been a career-best season for the young outfielder.

  • 🥈 Kyle Schwarber (Phillies) – Runner-up

  • Willson Contreras (Red Sox) – Semifinalist

  • Junior Caminero (Rays) – Semifinalist

Murakami Makes Historic Debut

White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami became just the second Japanese-born player to compete in the Home Run Derby, following Shohei Ohtani's appearance in 2021.

Murakami homered on the first pitch of his round and finished with nine home runs, but narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals.

Biggest Blasts of the Night

Several hitters delivered memorable long balls during the event.

Junior Caminero recorded the longest home run of the Derby, crushing a 491-foot drive during the semifinals.

Kansas City rookie Jac Caglianone also made headlines by becoming the first player since Phillies legend Ryan Howard in 2009 to reach the third deck in right field at Citizens Bank Park.

With his clutch finish under pressure, however, it was Jordan Walker who delivered the night's defining moment, turning a hostile road environment into the backdrop for his first Home Run Derby championship.
