Fever Rout Aces Again as Caitlin Clark Returns in Limited Minutes

The Indiana Fever continued their impressive run Sunday, rolling past the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces 109-75 behind another balanced offensive performance. Caitlin Clark returned to the lineup after missing time with a back injury, while Kelsey Mitchell stayed red-hot to lead Indiana to its second win over Las Vegas in just over a week.

The victory marked Indiana's second convincing road win over the Aces in eight days after defeating Las Vegas 84-68 on July 5. That earlier matchup came without both Clark and Aces star A'ja Wilson, but Sunday's rematch featured the return of both All-Stars.

Caitlin Clark Makes Return After Back Injury

Clark played her first extended minutes since dealing with a lingering back injury that sidelined her for two games.

The Fever guard finished with:

After returning for a limited 16-minute appearance against the Los Angeles Sparks earlier in the week, Clark skipped Indiana's game in Phoenix to avoid playing on consecutive nights. She had targeted around 25 minutes against Las Vegas and came close to that workload.

Kelsey Mitchell Continues Scoring Streak

While Clark eased back into the rotation, Kelsey Mitchell once again carried Indiana's offence.

Mitchell poured in 27 points, extending her streak to six straight games with at least 25 points.

The Fever also received major contributions from:

  • Aliyah Boston: 19 points and 11 rebounds

  • Sophie Cunningham: 20 points, including 6-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc

Indiana shot an impressive 56% from the field, connected on 15 three-pointers, and converted 18 of 19 free throws in one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season.

Fever Continues Offensive Surge

The Fever have now reached the 100-point mark eight times this season, more than any other team in the WNBA.

Indiana improved to 14-9 with the victory and wrapped up its West Coast road trip with a 3-1 record. The team now returns home for four straight games before the WNBA All-Star break.

Head coach Stephanie White praised her team's consistency and shot selection after another dominant performance.

She said the Fever continued finding quality scoring opportunities throughout the game and emphasised that the team's approach, not just its shooting percentage, has been driving recent success.

Aces Struggle Despite Wilson's Return

Las Vegas never found its rhythm as the defending champions suffered one of their most lopsided losses of the season.

A'ja Wilson recorded 20 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Indiana's offense.

The Aces were playing their third game in four days after victories over Portland and Phoenix, and head coach Becky Hammon acknowledged the demanding schedule may have taken its toll.

Las Vegas also welcomed guard Dana Evans back for her season debut following a leg injury. Evans contributed eight points in 18 minutes off the bench.

Historic Swing for Las Vegas

The loss completed a dramatic turnaround for the Aces.

Just one day after defeating Phoenix by 48 points, Las Vegas fell by 34 points to Indiana. According to ESPN Research, the 82-point swing from one game to the next is the largest point differential between consecutive games in WNBA history.

Wilson admitted the Aces failed to meet their own standards and said the team must learn from the defeat before returning to action after a week-long break.

For Indiana, the win reinforced its growing momentum as the Fever continue climbing the standings with one of the league's most productive offenses.
